Boggs SpaceBooks® is a bookshop devoted to books on the history of space exploration.
It is run by Donald and Tamara Boggs. We bring over 35 years of experience and knowledge
of the history of space flight. Our mission is to serve all customers, maintain the
highest integrity in our transactions, and provide a broad base of information on space
exploration to all those who are interested.
We sell space books. We love to buy and sell them. Many of the best that we buy, we
add to our personal collection. Tamara's father and uncle both worked at the Redstone Arsenal and later
the Marshall Space Flight Center under NASA.
They were there pretty much in the beginning and through the first 25 shuttle flights.
We have had several other close relatives work with NASA and NASA contractors at
Teledyne Brown, Boeing and the NASA Glenn Research Center.
There are several ways to order. You can select items on our
shopping cart, you can call, fax or email to inquire about availability
and provide payment information. We accept VISA, MasterCard, money orders and personal checks. We're happy to answer any
questions you have about SpaceBooks.

Prices are determined ultimately by what the market will bear. It is now
nearly 40 years since humans first stepped foot on the moon. Books carrying higher prices are
usually rare and hence difficult to find and are highly desired by collectors because of
their content. These are books typically published over 30years ago, often by NASA.
Most of the prices for used books are quite reasonable given that even new books in
this area typically cost $25-$80 or more. A true First Edition of course will always be more
valuable than later printings. Books on specific events of great interest to aficionados
(the Apollo 1 fire or the Apollo 13 mission) will command higher prices. The advent of
auctions of space collectibles in Beverly Hills or on eBay has also contributed to a
growing interest in books of this genre. We suspect that few if any of these books will decline in value.
Of course, we spend a great deal of time looking for books and describing them for customers. It takes
time and costs money to visit bookstores across the country as we do. Persons
willing to do this kind of legwork and invest years in it will be repaid with
finding books at lower prices than those we offer. Most customers though, simply
do not have the time to invest in scouting the country for books.
Some have noted that NASA has republished several of its rarer volumes from the 1960s.
These typically sell for $50 or more and are softbound. They are of course not as valuable
as the original editions. In addition, some NASA books have been scanned and the
texts are now printed online. Persons interested in reading copies should check
with the NASA History Office in Washington, D.C. for a list of books currently
available.
Our
primary specialty is books. We also carry some astronaut signed photographs as
well as ephemera, records, aerospace
company brochures, medallions and some space flown hardware. Much of our stock
is not listed on our website. Please
query
if you have particular interests in these areas.
Quite possibly. Only a small percentage of our books are listed on our web
site. We also keep want lists and search actively and continuously for books our
customers are seeking. Some are easy to find--some are more difficult. At any rate,
we'll search--and give you an immediate response to our first
efforts--usually within 48 hours.
The rarest are books in as new condition. We find often that given the
climate of Florida and Texas, that many early NASA documents stored there are
moisture damaged and even mildewed--the curse of collectors. Early NASA manuals
and other material from this era might be called the "holy grails" of space exploration. These would include the
limited edition von Braun's "History of Rocketry and Space Travel" (tooled
mission leather binding), NASA publications on the Apollo 204 accident, signed
von Braun books, hardbound Moonport and others. Take a
look at our Fall 2007 poll of space enthusiasts for the "holy grails"!
